Shmuptivity

Welcome to Shmuptivity! This is our most recent and biggest activity yet. Shmuptivity is a simple shoot 'em up playable in the browser (over there to the right!), and you get to make it your own by providing the visuals!

How to play

To play, first click into the game area, then press enter. Move around your ship using WASD or the arrow keys, and fire by holding down X or K. Since this activity's focus is showcasing the visuals, you can't die. But if you get hit, you will lose 100 score, so try not to anyway ;)

How to participate

As you can see, there's a bunch of stuff you can do. There is one static and two parallax backgrounds. The player's ship has a left and right leaning version to make things look a bit more dynamic. There's a total of three projectiles (one for the player, the other two for enemies). There are three regular enemies and one boss. And there's even animation for everything!

The player, the enemies, the boss and the projectiles have two frames of animation each. In the template, the frames are indicated by the small #1, #2 and so on in the bottom right corners. The only thing in the template that has more than two frames of animation is the explosion, though, which has three frames. And finally, you can also customize the score numbers.

Limitations

Besides the dimensions of the sheet and the limit of two animation frames per sprite, there are no limits. Go wild! Use as many or as few colors as you'd like. You also don't have to animate anything if you don't want to or don't feel comfortable with animations. Try to think outside the box! Shmups don't have to be space themed. Perhaps you can come up with something never seen before?

Submitting your entry

If you're finished and happy with your entry, join our Discord server and send a DM to Ennea (Ennea#9999) with your spritesheet. In the near future, a dropdown list of all entries will be added to this page, so any viewers can simply switch between them.
